Utu

Utu. The word means payment, retribution, compensation. My thought is that while we have an international currency of land ownership, to be sliced and diced and apportioned in value, the land itself has no recognition of this. Regardless of our abuses with pollution, climate crises and theft from indigenous guardians of the land, she will exact compensation.

This piece won an Honorary Mention at the 4th Annual Climate Crisis Art Exhibit, held by the Waco Friends of the Climate in 2020.
