Once feared and despised by the general population, the Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull was in reality a man of peace. Over his lifetime, Sitting Bull had witnessed the deceit, broken treaties, genocidal atrocities, and disappearance of the people, land, and the buffalo. He was a trained healer and seer of visions. In those difficult times, he saw peace as the only way his people would survive.
