This figure from the silver screen is controversial to this day. Charlie Chaplin had a career that spanned 75 years, included the founding of United Artists, 100+ productions, pioneered directing and acting simultaneously, brought laughter to millions worldwide and has a legacy of influence for generations of performers since. He was vocally against in the various dictatorships in Europe, but his socialist leanings won him few allies in the US.
