Matariki I (2018) Matāriki is the name of the period signifying the lunar new year for Māori in New Zealand. It reminds us it is time to prepare for the coming new season, the changes of weather on the oceans and to be thankful of the awareness of these blessings, as our ancestors intended us to use this knowledge.
